Chryssa KAPSOULI Actress - Theatrical director

Chryssa Kapslouli is graduated from the Greek National School of Dance, from the ‘Pelos Katselis’ Drama School and from the Department of English Language and Literature, University of Athens. She continued with Theatre, Voice, Body and Movement Studies at Freie Universitát, Berlin. She has been working as an actor since 1982. At the invitation of M. Volanakis, she began her cooperation with the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG). She has worked alongside with significant theatre makers such as Michael Marmarinos, Andreas Voutsinas, Yiannis Rigas, Vassilis Papavasiliou, Evri Gavrielides, Nikos Hourmouziades, Sotiris Hatzakis and many others. She has performed in parts of the classic and contemporary repertoire such as Lulu (Wedekind), Ophelia-Electra (Heiner Müller), Iris (Aristophanes), Anina (Goldoni), Orlando (Shakespeare), Hotelier (Kundera), Countess Elena (von Kleist). She has also worked as a choreographer in Trojan Women, directed by Andreas Voutsinas. In 1998 she founds the DameBlanche Dance and Theatre Company where she performs and directs plays of the international and Greek repertoire such as Medea (Heiner Müller), The Woman of Zakynthos (Dionysios Solomos), Lola Vallery Stein (Marguerite Duras), Dream Odyssey (Akis Dimou, Elena Penga, etc.), Cats have Seven Lives (Jenny Erpenbeck), Odysseus - Ithaca - Homer (Dimitris Dimitriadis), Judith (Howard Barker) and The Annunciation of Cassandra (Dimitris Dimitriadis), a project which took part in the XIV International Festival of Ancient Drama in Delphi (July 2009) and the 44th Demetria (Thessaloniki, 2009). In November 2010, Judith was presented at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the Performance - Talk - Exhibition ‘Conversing with Barker’. During the period 2011-2012 she directed the performance Lulu Sketches A and B (Frank Wedekind) at Booze Cooperativa and at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki. The DameBlanche Theatre and Dance Company has been sponsored by the Ministry of Culture since 2006. It has collaborated with M. Lohman (Vienna), Tilo Crigar (Thessaloniki Cultural Capital 1997), Attila Retly, Dimitris Kamarotos and Michael Delta. Besides Dameblanche, Chryssa Kapsouli has performed in leading parts in plays such as The Second Solution (directed by Alexandra Papageorgiou, ‘Neos Kosmos’ Theatre) and in Gorky’s Wife (written and directed by Elena Penga, ‘Kinitiras’ Studio, 2011). She also taught Acting (1987-1994) at the National Conservatory of the National Theatre of Northern Greece and at the Postgraduate programme of the English Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the Municipal Theatre of Kavala as well as in seminars conducted by DameBlanche in cooperation with the Goethe Institut of Thessaloniki, the ‘Amalia Strinopoulou’ School of Dance and the ‘Study Space’ (Thessaloniki). She cooperates with the ‘Chora’ Theatre, the Drama Therapy Centre and she also teaches Acting at the drama school of the Theatre of Changes. During the period 2012-2013, she staged the performance The Visitor (T. Williams), Venus in Hades (Theatre at the Bath House of the Winds) and The Tree (Maria Laina) at the National Theatre Hall ('Staged Readings' by Sissy Papathanassiou). During the period 2013-2014, she staged The Tree (Maria Laina, ‘Simeio Theatre’), The Annunciation of Cassandra (Dimitris Dimitriadis) at ‘Minos Volanakis Library’, Just Love (Nina Rapi, Queer Festival - ‘Empros Theatre’), The Witnesses (the outcome of a three-month seminar on acting, Television Control Centre), A gesture and its kissing (Anna Karamba, ‘Contemporary Plays Staged Readings’, ‘Vyrsodepseio Theatre’). In the period 2014-2015, she staged the Wild Notes (Modern Greek Plays Festival, ‘Aggelon Vima’ Theatre). Finally, during the period 2015-2016, she staged and performed the leading role in The Annunciation of Cassandra (Dimitris Dimitriadis) at ‘PolychorosKET’, she directed the performance ‘Kappa’ (Tsimaras Tzanatos) at ‘Onassis Cultural Centre’ and she also directed and signed an audiovisual documentation footage for the art exhibition Holy Glory at ‘The Breeder’ Gallery (Blind Adam). and participates in Athens Festival 2017 (Opening to the City - Piraeus: Bridging Diversities) as a director of the musical performance Kostas Nouros: A Foreigner Twice Over (Anthi Gourounti, Chryssa Kaspouli, Tsimaras Tzanatos, 10-19 June 2017).
